The aim of the Physical Education department at JESS is to provide High Quality Physical Education to enable students to maximize their performance across a wide range of physical activities and sports. We aim to provide all pupils with the finest methods, specialists and facilities seamlessly integrated to efficiently enhance our pupils learning and performance.
Sport has a significant history of being part of the life at JESS. The School’s tradition as a highly competitive sports school and one that embraces good sportsmanship has created a reputable standing and welcomed ever increasing changes over the years.
The sports programs aim to further manage, develop and promote all facets of sport for students from the Foundation Stage to Year 13. The highest standards in presentation and behaviour are maintained by the sports staff in all sporting endeavours. Comprehensive and sequenced programs of excellence and enrichment are offered across a wide range of sports allowing all students a chance to choose an activity providing for their needs regardless of their age and ability. JESS also aims to develop every student to their potential whether defining their basic skills or reaching optimum achievements up to a competitive level.
Sport and physical activity play a significant part in the life of every JESS student. Involvement in competitive sport commences in Year 3 at the Primary School and remains an integral part throughout the Senior School. Students learn about teamwork and following rules of the game, abiding by the referee’s decision, commitment to a team or individual play, experiencing winning and losing whereby celebrating success or supporting teammates in loss.
The JESS spirit is enhanced through the playing of sport, as is the range of friendships. It is intended that all students should leave JESS with, not only a good academic education but the fundamentals of fair play and good sportsmanship.
