The timing of an offer will depend on the year group you have applied for and whether the place is to start at the beginning of an academic year or mid-year, as follows:

- Beginning of the Academic Year

Foundation One
For children entering Foundation One the ‘conditional offer’ of a place will take place in the November prior to September entry (i.e. children starting in September 2012 will be allocated their places in November 2011). The subsequent confirmation of Foundation One offers will be made once all liaison and visits to nurseries, homes or school has taken place. These usually take place during the February/March of the same calendar year of the start date. This process is undertaken to ensure that JESS can meet the needs of each child. Confirmation would be finalised by the end of term two.
If, during the period between the initial allocations and the start date, any places are not accepted for any reason, then further offers may be made as and when the availability arises.

If the place has been offered under the 'sibling' priority the older brother or sister must already be attending Jumeirah English Speaking School when both the offer of a place is made and when the younger sibling joins in the September. If after the offer is made the older brother or sister is subsequently removed from the school the offer for the sibling place will be withdrawn.
Once the place is finalised by the confirmation or payment of the appropriate entrance fee, parents will receive a confirmation pack. This will detail any outstanding documentation that is still required as well as information on uniform requirements, suppliers, fees and calendar.
Parents who do not respond within the deadline risk the offer being withdrawn and the child’s name being removed from the waiting list.

Year Seven

If the Year 7 waiting list is open (see Availability & Waiting Lists), external applications to this year group are accepted once the full end-of-year school report for Year 5 is available. If necessary, this may then be followed by an assessment. The first assessment day for outside applicants is usually mid December.

All Year 6 JESS students, at both Arabian Ranches and Jumeirah, have confirmed places in Year 7. Secondary allocations for outside applicants to Year Seven will take place at the beginning of March. JESS students must confirm their plans to us by early March therefore we have a more definitive list of places available to outside applicants by this date.

If, during the period between the initial allocations and the start date, any places are not accepted for any reason, then further offers may be made as and when the availability arises.

Sixth Form (Year Twelve)
Each year we have a limited number of places in our Sixth Form to offer to applicants from outside JESS. Students who would like to be considered should apply to the Sixth Form before the end of October in the year prior to the September start. (Please refer to the ‘Entry Criteria’ section here for minimum requirements for Sixth Form entry).
Upon receipt of a completed application form and supporting documents (detailed in the ‘Registrations’ section within this guide), a member of the academic staff will make contact to arrange an interview. A letter of recommendation from the current school will also be requested. If all the entry criteria are fulfilled, a conditional offer will be made.

All Year 11 JESS students at Arabian Ranches attend selection interviews which take place throughout the year. Whilst this is an ongoing process, we would hope to know which of our current students are continuing to the JESS Sixth Form by the end of the Spring term. By this time, therefore we would have a more definitive list of places available to offer to outside applicants.

All Other Year Groups
We request one terms notice for students leaving JESS, therefore the majority of ‘start-of-year’ places are offered during the Summer term (April-June) preceding the start of the academic year. As soon as places become available we will contact and offer to the next student on our waiting list. We do not always receive a full term’s notice however, therefore we cannot guarantee at what point during the summer term offers will be made. Please note that some ‘start-of-year’ offers may be made with very short notice, either just prior to, or during the first few weeks of the Autumn term. JESS will only fill places as they become available.

- During the Academic Year
There are no specific dates during which offers are made during the school year. We request one terms notice for students leaving JESS. As soon as places become available we will contact and offer to the next student on our waiting list. Please note however, that we do not always receive a full term’s notice, therefore we cannot guarantee the length of the lead time we are able to give to the families that we offer to, nor at what point during the year offers will be made. JESS will only fill places as they become available.

When offering during the year, we also must follow KHDA regulations and can only offer places that start within the dates listed below:
• Moving within Dubai From a different curriculum September to mid November
• Moving from outside Dubai – from a different curriculum September to mid November
• Moving within Dubai From the same curriculum September to end January
• Moving from outside Dubai – from the same curriculum September to mid May
