JESS Arabian Ranches Secondary School opened in September 2005 on a site that side by side with JESS Primary. We have 850 students on roll aged from 11-18 (Years 7-13). The attractive, spacious campus is superbly designed; it consists of purpose-built classrooms and specialist facilities.
Sports facilities include a nine lane shaded/temperature controlled swimming pool, plus a separate learner pool, four tennis/three netball courts, a large air-conditioned sports hall and a very big, all natural grass sports filed. The site also benefits from a state-of-the-art dance studio, fitness suite, lecture theatre, cafeteria, auditorium and outdoor amphitheatre.
Main teaching spaces are complemented by specialist facilities including well-equipped science labs with preparation rooms, music department and recital room complete with Mac suite. The design and technology department furnished with up to date machinery including a bespoke Mac Suite, laser cutters, CNC woodcutter and 3D printer, a spacious art department, drama studios and four ICT desktop suites. A comprehensive library works in tandem with our learning support department - The Oasis.
The Sixth Form is comfortably housed in the recently built Flanagan Centre which includes a common room and study centre for our senior students as well as a large lecture theatre.
The use of technology is evident throughout the school with all classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards or televisions. The senior school operates a BYOD approach to technology for learning whilst a tablet initiative has recently been launched in Key Stage 3.
The school delivers a British curriculum through Key Stages 3 and 4 culminating in GCSE examinations in Year 11. The Sixth Form has an outstanding reputation for a world class International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, IB Courses and is introducing a range of BTEC qualifications (Level 3 Extended Diplomas in Sport, Art and Business).
Positions of responsibility include a Director, Headteacher, Deputy Headteachers, Assistant Headteachers, Heads of Years and Subject Leaders.
Highly qualified, specialist staff deliver in all subjects.
Extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities are an important part of a school life and all staff share a full commitment to this. Up to twenty residential trips take place within a school year. Comprehensive sport, drama and music opportunities exist at all levels of the school. The participation rates of students in activities beyond the classroom are exceptional. A strong House system is an important aspect of school life.
JESS is committed to the professional development of all staff and, as a member of HMC, COBIS and being an IB World School subscribes to many staff training courses. Teachers also attend training courses arranged independently by JESS as well as conferences both home and abroad.
A strong school self-evaluation system is in operation, complemented by an extensive programme of external inspection (DSIB, BSO).
