Extra-Curricular

The extracurricular programme at JESS is extensive with a wide range of sport, drama, music, educational trips, and competitions available for students to enjoy. In addition, our attached Primary School and lower years offer opportunities for Sixth Form students to take up coaching and teaching roles.

Numerous residential trips which link back to the curriculum are offered throughout the year in order that students may experience different cultures and expand their knowledge and education.

Sixth Formers have the opportunity every year to experience the life-changing trip to Vietnam (involving, amongst other things, jungle treks and house-building) and in the past have visited other overseas destinations such as Thailand, Nepal and Tokyo, in addition to various European cities.

This year, as well as the 'infamous' JESS Vietnam trip, the educational trips that were on offer to Sixth Form students were:

Spanish Work Experience trip to Malaga, Spain

French IBDP trip to South of France

Business/Economics trip trip to Tokyo, Japan

Psychology and History trip to Berlin and Krakow

JESS secondary students also have the opportunity to take part in the Dukeof Edinburgh's International Award (IA) at GOLD level.

This is an exciting self-development programme available to all young people aged 14-25, equipping them with life skills to make a difference to themselves, their communities and the world. The Award concept is one of individual challenge designed to encourage young people to develop into responsible, active citizens who will positively contribute towards society.

It presents a balanced, non-competitive and enjoyable programme of voluntary activities which encourage personal discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility and service to the community.

The International award, Gold Adventurous Journey is offered to those over 16 and the four sections that need to be completed in order to gain the award at each level are:

  • Service
  • Adventurous Journey/Expedition
  • Skill
  • Physical Recreation

There is an additional requirement for a Residential Project at Gold Level and this year students can choose between Wadi Ghail, Fujeirah or Ho Chi Min City, Dalat and Mekong Delta in Vietnam.
