Year 3 football - the season so far

Sunday, November 20, 2011

Our young Year 3 footballers have been getting into their stride in the first few games of the season. Match reports below.

Monday 3rd October - v Rashid School for Boys.
The year 3s understandably took a while to find their rhythm with it being their first match ever. This allowed Rashid to score early on with a lobbed effort. However JESS started to play together as a team and finished the first half strongly. With excellent play from Jamie Annand (Man of the match) and Asil Dell’Utri the Year 3s piled on the pressure in the second half and hit the post. However after a sustained period of pressure Rashid managed to poach a goal with 1 minute left to leave the score 2-0. It was a great effort and there were lots of positives to build on.

Monday 10th October - v Wellington International A and B.
The B team lost 3-1 despite a superb man of the match by Nathan Russell. He never stopped running and scored a brilliant individual goal to put us 1-0 up. Unfortunately Wellington proved to be the stronger side and gradually wore JESS down winning 3-1. It was a great effort.
The A’s drew 1-1 and arguably deserved to win the game dominating for large periods of the match. Adam Lamarre scored with a free kick from quite a distance. It took a deflection but was still a great shot. Man of the match Finn Yeates was fantastic in defence making important tackles and being comfortable in possession. The score was an improvement from last week so the boys will take confidence into their next game against Repton.

Wednesday 19th October - v Repton.
For some of the B team it was their first match ever so they tried very hard. Repton are a strong team though so the result ended up being 4-0 to Repton. Stefan Wadding-Claesen was the man of the match for being fantastic in goal.
The A’s managed to put pressure on Repton A creating chances and defending well. Again Repton proved to be very skilful and scored just before half time. Another goal shortly after meant it could have been a one-sided game but Asil Dell’Utri scored a great goal after a pass from Jamie Annand to make it 2-1. That’s the way it ended but it was a superb effort from the Year 3s. Max Rollitt was man of the match for a terrific defensive display. He was dominant not letting anyone get past him.
