GCSE Revision Sessions Prior to Study Leave 2011-2012
GCSE Coursework / Controlled Assessments
Throughout the academic year students will be expected to complete coursework (for most, but not all) GCSE subjects. A relatively new feature of GCSE coursework consists of controlled assessments. It is vital that students recognise that this is considered an ‘examination’ and must therefore be treated with the same sense of urgency as an actual examination which is held in the Sports Hall in May/June. In addition, it is important to recognise that the weeks leading up to a controlled assessment are vital in the preparation for the assessment, so attendance is essential during this period. Subject staff will of course remind their classes of forthcoming examinations and deadlines, but it is also the responsibility of the students to manage their time, keep to these deadlines and to be aware of approaching examinations.
The coursework deadline calendars for this year are shown below.

GCSE Examinations
When students are entered for an examination (modular or re-sit examination) they will receive individual Statements of Entry for their specific examinations. These statements will indicate the subject, date and occasionally the time of the examination(s). We expect students to check, sign and return these forms to the Examinations Officer confirming their attendance to the named examination once distributed. Students are expected to draw attention to any error on the Statement of Entry at that time by informing the Examinations Officer. In addition, students will be provided with their own copy to keep and bring to that examination.
Please note, any student who has been entered for an examination and who fails to attend without good cause, or who fails to submit sufficient coursework, will be responsible for the cost involved. However, if a student is unable to attend an examination on any particular day for any reason, please inform the school at the earliest opportunity by contacting the Secondary School reception.

PIN Numbers
Year 11 Study Leave and PINS for Edexcel Results
All Y11 students received a letter on 9 May with their
Edexcel results PIN (see the letter in the downloads section above)
This tells them how all results will be issued to them via email. It is vital that we have an up to date email address in order to facilitate this action. Students will be asked to confirm a suitable email address before they go on Study Leave.
Year 10 students unfortunately do not have the opportunity to access results in the same way and they will receive their Science results once back at school in September 2012.
Study Leave
- Early Examinations or Re-sits.
The school policy indicates that students may only take half a day for study leave if the examination occurs in the afternoon session. Since a pm examination extends the student day considerably, the student will be given the option to rest prior to starting the pm examination, either at home or in a quiet room at school (we anticipate pm examinations starting after 5.30 pm in accordance with pm examinations in the UK and quarantine rules).
- Year 11 Summer Examinations Information regarding study leave will be issued closer to Term 3.
