If a student is absent due to illness, please notify the School Nurse between 8.00am and 9.00am either by telephone on 04 4424618 or email to healthoffice@jess.sch.ae.

You may wish to discuss the absence further with the School Nurse, for example, if your child has suffered an asthma attack or has a contagious ailment. If we have not heard the reason why a student is absent by the third day of absence, the School Nurse will contact the parents. Students are also asked to bring in absence notes when they return to school so that records can be maintained, or parents may complete the relevant section in the Student Planner.

Should a student suffer a longer term absence due to illness, it may be possible for the teachers to set work that can be undertaken at home. Please contact the Form Tutor if this is the case.

Please arrange doctor/dentist/optician appointments out of school time. If this is not possible, the Form Tutor should be informed in writing, and the student collected from the School Reception, signing out as he/she leaves.

Students are responsible for collecting and completing any academic work missed due to illness or absence. Understandably, the teachers will support them in this process.

Parents are requested to seek permission in writing from the Headteacher if they wish to take their child out of school during term time.

General Concerns
If a member of staff is concerned about a student either academically or pastorally, the Form Tutor or Head of Year will contact the parents by telephone to arrange an appointment. Likewise, if parents have any concerns, or need to pass on information, they should contact the Form Tutor, in the first instance, or Head of Year via the School Reception to arrange a mutually convenient time to discuss their concern.
