Water Aid Walk for Year 9 students
Tuesday, December 20, 2011
On Tuesday 20 December, Year 9 walked around the Arabian Ranches to raise awareness and charitable donations for the Water Aid charity. All through Term 1 they have been learning about global development issues, culminating with this Water Walk. The students were imagining the reality for many people in the world who have no access to clean water or safe sanitation. With their donations they managed to raise 1300 dhs which they will use to purchase equipment needed for the digging of a well for a village in Africa. The pupils themselves were outstanding and began to identify what a 10km walk for water really means for everyday life in Africa!
The pupils said ‘it felt like a long way I can’t imagine doing this every day just to get my water’ and ‘think what they could be doing while they’re doing this!’
And ‘We raised quite a lot money just think what we can do with this!’ and most importantly ‘I liked the fun we had together’.
In the Geography Department we would definitely agree with them. We would like to thank the Year 9 Tutors who accompanied us today.
