At JESS, we strive to motivate and encourage our students to develop their reading skills, to facilitate their progress in all areas of the curriculum. We provide a programme for Years 7 & 8 called Accelerated Reader (AR™). The guide attached below is designed to answer your questions about AR. As part of this, we would ask you to encourage your child to read for 20 minutes each day, and to be aware of what they are reading. There is space in your child's planner to acknowledge, at the end of the week, that this has been achieved. Students should also be recording details of all books they are reading in the 'Reading Log' which can be found on the last two pages of their planner.
