The Key Stage 3 scheme of work follows the National Framework. One of our teaching resources is the Maths Connect Scheme which provides a comprehensive differentiated scheme of work suitable for all levels of ability. We have also developed an interactive e-curriculum, which allows students to access a variety of teaching and learning activities on the internet. Our main e-resources are Mathletics and MyMaths, although we offer an extensive selection of other websites for students’ use. All schemes of work are currently being updated and hosted on MathsAlive, our Virtual Learning Environment, and will be available to students in full via the internet.

In Year 7 we place students in appropriate sets at the end of Term 1 and thereafter movement between sets can be made when both the student and teacher believe that it would improve the student’s learning.

Whilst students do sit formal end-of-year examinations, the ultimate target of the Mathematics Department is to promote independent student learning and the policy of assessment for learning throughout the year is crucial to the success of this target.

All students are expected to reflect on their mathematics and to take responsibility for improving their learning and understanding. The teacher’s role therefore is to create the learning environment conducive to this goal of self-assessment and reflection and to allow the students the time to perform this vital task.

Our on-line teaching and learning web-site is www.mymaths.co.uk  We would encourage parents to actively engage their children in conversation about these activities and offer any help they can.
