In Years 7, 8 and 9 classes are taught in tutor groups for one lesson of Design and Technology per week. They work through the design process to produce quality outcomes, which satisfy a given or identified design brief. This course provides students with the option of considering studying Resistant Materials at Key Stage 4. Key Stage 3 exemplar projects include:

• Acrylic storage for personal items
• A piece of jewellery cast in pewter
• A sheet aluminium clock

Students also receive one lesson of ADT/Graphics per week, delivered by either a Design and Technology or Art and Design specialist. The ADT/Graphics course at JESS aims to contribute to the school curriculum by offering a series of Graphics units, which complement and support the schemes of work in both Art and Design and Design and Technology. The course develops students’ manipulation and use of several Bitmap and Vector software including Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, 2D design, Solidworks and 3D Pro-Desktop. The course gives students the option of considering Graphic Products at Key Stage 4. Key Stage 3 exemplar projects include:

• Modelling for a new mobile phone
• A new water bottle label for a drinks company
• Shop front design
