The department aims to inspire creative and analytical thinking about the world in which we live, societies, cultures and the human condition. In embracing a wide range of exciting dramatic strategies and conventions, our students explore and investigate the issues most crucial to our times and those throughout history.
Department Facilities
At JESS at the Arabian Ranches we are proud of our excellent facilities for Drama. Placed in the centre of the secondary school campus, the Drama department occupies an excellent space in which to work.
Most drama lessons take place in three purpose built drama studios, which can be converted into one larger working space. These rooms are located underneath the school auditorium, (the dungeon!). The auditorium's excellent facilities allow us to produce large or small-scale productions and boasts state of the art sound and lighting facilities and flexible staging and seating.
In addition to the indoor venues, at the heart of the whole school is the amphitheatre. This is an ideal outdoor arena for those wonderful starry winter evenings!
Extra-curricular
For keen performers there is the opportunity to be part of extra-curricular production work, whether that is a text based drama project, devised theatre or a large scale musical.
We have produced several 'sell out' productions.......
'Rats the Musical'
'Bugsy Malone'
'Blood Brothers'
'Oliver'
More productions for this educational year. Watch this space!!!
‘Drop-in’ sessions at lunch times have proved to be very popular with our young performers and enable the students to extend and elaborate on work done in curricular time and at the same time have a lot of fun and enjoy the social interaction.
