The English Curriculum at Key Stage 3 is designed to develop in our students the ability to express themselves with confidence, to think logically, creatively and imaginatively and to develop a deep understanding of literature.

The tradition of reading novels, plays and poetry still continues, but the ability of our students to express themselves holds equal importance in the classroom. Therefore the development of oral skills in debating, presentations and drama based activities allows us to develop all facets of our students’ capabilities, not just those involving the written word.

Throughout Key Stage 3 students are taught in their mixed ability tutor groups.

KS3 Exemplar work:
Students follow a modular based curriculum that is underpinned by a core set of skills based upon reading, writing and speaking and listening. Running along side these modules all students have access to the Secondary Learning Resource Centre’s Fiction Library each week during their timetabled English lessons.
