Department Aims
The aim of the Modern Foreign Languages Department at JESS is to enable pupils to become confident and independent language learners.
Students are encouraged to develop their language skills through a variety of activities that involve listening, speaking, reading and writing. Each lesson is planned to allow pupils to feel valued and confident to participate in class activities, ensuring that the language learning process is a positive and enjoyable experience. As well as improving the students’ understanding and application of grammar, the department also aims to develop an awareness of different countries, cultures and people.
Department Facilities
Each teacher has their own classroom with LCD projector and interactive whiteboard. During lessons we use a wide range of resources, including language learning software, CDs for listening activities, board, dice and card games, text and work books. Classroom layouts and facilities are designed to enable the students to focus on their learning and complete tasks in pairs and groups allowing a more communicative and peer-centred learning.
