Students at JESS follow the AQA French GCSE supported by the Expo 4 course. They are encouraged to develop an understanding of spoken French in a range of contexts and an ability to communicate effectively through both the spoken and written word. During the course, students will develop knowledge of the grammar of French and the ability to apply it in a variety of situations with the aim of providing a sound foundation for further study and practical use. Topics are broken down into four themes which include ‘My World’, ‘Holiday Time and Travel’, ‘Work and Lifestyle’ and ‘The Young Person in Society’, in which an understanding of French society and culture is developed.  At the end of the course, students will sit a Listening, Reading and Speaking examination, and complete written assignments throughout the two years to be entered as coursework.
