Spanish is currently offered as an option for Year 10 at GCSE Level. As most students are beginners in Spanish, an accelerated-learning style course is offered. This starts with building a firm foundation in vocabulary and progresses to a level in which they are confident to take the final AQA GCSE examination. The aim is for students to understand and respond to spoken language, communicate in speech and in writing, apply grammar accurately, and respond to written language. A variety of topics are studied in a cultural context including family, leisure, town, school, holiday, work, health, food, shopping and the environment. At the end of the course, students will sit a Listening, Reading and Speaking examination, and complete written assignments throughout the two years to be entered as coursework.
