The aim of the science department at JESS Arabian Ranches is to enable students to understand a broad range of scientific concepts, facts, principles and theories, while helping them to engage with and challenge the science they meet in everyday life. We are committed to encouraging our students to adopt a critical, questioning frame of mind, going ‘behind the scenes’ to understand the workings of science and how it impacts their lives.

The emphasis is on ‘learning by discovery’ and, as a result, practical work, investigation skills and ICT are the focal points of many lessons. We attempt to provide a meaningful learning experience for all of our students. We strive to make lessons fun and varied, making sure that the delivery of the curriculum is interesting and accessible to all.

Department Facilities
The staff are a highly motivated and determined team who like to challenge themselves and students with up to date teaching styles and technology. The staff work together to support students, and each other, and value a friendly atmosphere. Currently there are eight laboratories, which are fully equipped to a very high standard. This includes access to an inbuilt LCD projector and interactive whiteboard. Laboratory equipment is abundant and students are able to carry out practical work with ease. The design of the spacious laboratories makes them a pleasure to learn and teach in.
