Year 13 Graduation
Saturday, May 21, 2016
21st May saw our 90 Year 13 students celebrate their graduation from JESS. Our Headteacher Mr O’Brien shares his thoughts on this below:
‘Saturday saw us bid farewell to our ninety Year 13 students who have now finished all of their IB exams and are more than ready to spread their wings. The Graduation Ceremony is one of my favourite events of the year. It is a very emotional and significant time for students and their families and it is extremely satisfying for staff. To see these young men and women cross the stage as they graduate and hear of their university destinations is quite moving. They range from reading Medicine at Oxford, to Law at the London School of Economics to Acting at New York University to places at UCLA, McGill, St Andrews, Maastricht, Singapore and Melbourne. The most distant has to be studying Dentistry at Otago in New Zealand and the most interesting for me is studying at the National Outdoor Leadership School in Wyoming. There was so much pride around the room on Saturday – it really is a very precious point in time that needs to be treasured, whether you have spent two or thirteen years (as ten people have) at JESS, I hope that all are taking away fond memories of growing up in an exceptional place’.
