On Wednesday evening, as the air raid sirens rang out, the Year 6 children donned their ID cards and gas masks, grabbed their teddies and suitcases and were packed off to a new life in the country - it turns out it was the Arabian Ranches but, hey, there is only so much we can do! The Evacuation evening is always a highlight of Year 6 and this one was no different. The children loved dressing up as second world war children and experiencing life as an evacuee; the evening provided them with a great deal of perspective and experience from which they will write diary entries in school next week
Over the last 2 weeks, the new Eco-garden has been a hive of activity as pupils from all across the school have been busy planting their first crops. The Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 have planted a variety of flowers. Whilst Year 3 are hoping that the fruits (and vegetables) of their labour can be offered as part of the Healthy Selfie. It has been back to the trenches for Year 6; they have been ‘Digging for Victory’ planting cabbages, carrots, shallots, radishes and broad beans (Mr Firth’s least favourite food) to replicate what a vegetable patch would have been like during World War II
On 3 November, our Heritage Heroes participated in a world record breaking event at Zabeel Park. In the presence of Sheikh Mohammed and a representative of the Guinness Book of World Records, our pupils helped form the largest student human flag. Over 10,000 pupils created the flag of the UAE watched over from the 'stands' by another 12,000 pupils. Our pupils represented JESS in an exemplary manner; congratulations to them all!
The Year 1 trip to Zabeel Park this week was a huge success with one pupil describing it as the “best trip ever!” That is some accolade! The children in Year 1 had a great time exploring patterns in the environment, measuring objects and playing games with the parachute
