Year 6 DESS ‘Festive Football’ Tournament

Thursday, December 08, 2011

Following an extremely successful league campaign, the Year 6 Jumeirah football team left school early on Thursday to compete in the annual DESS invitation tournament. As always, the standard of competition was excellent, with every team capable of beating each other on the day.

The tournament started with a very tricky fixture against Repton, which saw JESS narrowly lose 1-0. Following a very closely fought 0-0 in the next match, the team knew they would have to win each of their remaining games to qualify for the semi-finals. The excitement culminated in the last group game against JPS, where after an extremely high tempo game, JESS ran out eventual 2-0 winners, setting up a semi-final match against the host team, DESS.

The match proved to be evenly contested, with both teams scarcely missing chances to take the lead. At the final whistle, the score remained 0-0 with five minutes of golden goal now looming. Both teams tried in vain to break the deadlock, the result, penalties!

Sadly for JESS, the DESS team held their nerve, scoring a number of exceptional penalties, eventually winning the shootout 5-3. Despite the disappointment, the tournament proved to be a great experience, leaving the team even more determined to go one step further in the coming Year 6 Trophy.

Congratulations to all players who were involved and to the eventual winners, DESS.

Player of the Tournament: Harvey Bullock
Year 6 Team: Harry Hughes, David Hunt, Yusuf Khan, Jamie MacKinnon, Etienne Tillon, Harvey Bullock, Jacob Camilleri, Jordyn Hamilton, Finlay Keegan, Grant Davidson
