The JESS Sixth Form is an integral part of the school with many elements of continuity but also some important differences from Key Stage 4. You will be expected to show initiative and be more self-reliant and you will be treated more as an adult. You will be taught in a variety of ways including not just through the type of lessons you are probably used to but also through a seminar approach, much like you would find in further education.
You will be placed in a tutor group and will meet with your tutor once each week; your tutor will provide guidance, information and advice on your progress and development. In the second year of the Sixth Form you will be joined by students who will then be new to Year 12; so the tutor groups will include a mixture of Year 12 and 13 students. In addition to your tutor, you will be supported by the Head of Sixth Form who will guide you through University applications and write references for you. The IB Coordinator and the CAS Coordinator will assist with this and ensure your smooth passage through the IB Diploma.
As a Sixth Former you will be able to benefit from certain privileges. For example, you will have your own Sixth Form area complete with Common Room and study areas which will enable you to work independently. You will be able to use the Common Room in your non-contact time not just for work but also for relaxation. There will be a small kitchenette in the Common Room where you can prepare basic snacks. You will not have to wear a uniform although you will be expected to agree to a Dress Code. Go to
Dress Code & Equipment for further detail.
All Sixth Formers will be expected to be positive role-models for our younger students. You may be able to fulfil roles such as Head Girl or Boy, Deputy Head Girl or Boy, or Prefect. However, even if such an opportunity is not available to you, you will still be able to develop leadership skills and contribute to the life of the school through a variety of comittees and through our CAS programme.
